A memory from Secret Gig #15: Birmingham

Posted by Zac on 21 September 2006 at 22:17
I had come on to the message board to talk about the SBE show and as I was looking around I noticed that my pointer turned to a hand when I hovered over a strange collection of letters and numbers. I clicked on it and when prompted, entered my mobile number and the town near where I lived.

Life carried on and the I got a text message about a secret gig. I didn't even know that Embrace did secret gigs at that point so I didn't quite believe it. I told Wayne and we decided to go along to the place I had been told about to see what happened. We arrived about two hours early but that was fine because there was a nice cafe there so we had some brekkie. We had our copy of OON with us because we had just bought it and I wanted to read the lyrics whilst listening to it in the car.

Watching out of the window we noticed that a guy was waiting by the pool, wearing an Embrace t-shirt. We started to think that this might actually be true. Eventually loads of people were there (well, relatively loads - about 150 maybe). We went out and stood with them. This guy walked through the crowd and asked what we were all doing there and no-one would speak to him. I didn't want to answer because I still wasn't absolutely sure. He got a bit shirty that there were all these people refusing to talk to him.

I went out to stand at the entrance, just to have a look if anything was going on there and a little micra car pulled up in front of me. Danny was sat in the passenger seat. I walked back and told Wayne that yes, it seems Embrace were going to be doing something.

It was surreal and it was brilliant. It was all over by midday and we then just got on with our weekend.
